چکیده
Background: The mediastinum is the space between two lungs, bounded anteriorly by sternum and posteriorly vertebral column. A spectrum of neoplastic non-neoplastic lesions can arise in mediastinum.
Methods: total 14 cases were retrospectively retrieved from Histopathology department. had histopathological diagnosis either image guided, thorocoscopic, transbronchial or excision biopsies.
Results: majority (43% n=6) thymic origin, which included both thymoma group lesion like cysts. 3 B3 1 case AB. lymphoid include Hodgkin lymphoma (14.3%; n=2) non-Hodgkin (7.1%; n=1). mesenchymal (21.4%; n=3) lipoma, solitary fibrous tumor schwannoma accounts for one each. rare ectopic parathyroid adenoma a metastatic papillary carcinoma n=1) also reported.
Conclusion: mediastinal mass pose difficulties due to its wide clinicopathologic clinician, radiologists pathologist. multimodal approach with examination immunohistochemistry help arriving at an accurate diagnosis.

Imaging of anterior mediastinal masses
Multiple different types of anterior mediastinal masses may be encountered on computed tomography (CT) imaging, and many of these lesions are neoplastic in etiology. These include masses arising from the thymus, thyroid and parathyroid glands, as well as lymph nodes, pericardium, and vessels and nerves. Often, the CT attenuation of the mass can be helpful in narrowing down the differential diag...
متن کاملClinicopathological Analysis of Mediastinal Masses: A Mixed Bag of Non-Neoplastic and Neoplastic Etiologies.
OBJECTIVE The mediastinum is the central portion of the thoracic cavity, housing numerous organs and harbouring a mixed bag of non-neoplastic and neoplastic lesions. Accurate diagnosis is essential owing to the widely variable therapeutic and prognostic implications. MATERIAL AND METHOD Cases of mediastinal masses were retrospectively reviewed from January 2011 till January 2016. Clinico-radi...
متن کاملFallibility of transthoracic needle biopsy of anterior mediastinal masses.
Percutaneous transthoracic core needle biopsy has been advocated as a highly accurate technique for the diagnosis of anterior mediastinal masses. A patient is described with a large anterior mediastinal mass in whom the diagnosis of mediastinal carcinoid tumour was made by transthoracic core needle biopsy. At definitive surgical resection the tumour proved to be a B cell lymphoma. This case ill...

Children with anterior mediastinal masses may experience serious complications during general anaesthesia. We retrospectively surveyed the records of children with an anterior mediastinal mass who had been admitted to our hospital over a 7 year period. The presence of pre-operative symptoms or signs, findings of any special investigations performed and the anaesthetic outcome were noted. All ra...

A 16-year-old female with a history of neck hemangioma surgery presented with irritable coughs. A computed tomography scan showed anterosuperior and middle mediastinal masses (Figure 1). The patient underwent surgery and the upper and middle mediastinal lesions were removed (Figure 2A). Pathological examination confirmed that the upper and mid...
